How EFT Tapping Ends Procrastination
Do you ever find yourself staring at a to-do list, completely paralyzed? You know what needs to be done, but you just can’t seem to start. Procrastination doesn’t just waste time—it drains your energy and leaves you feeling stuck. Trust me, I’ve been there.
I used to be a master procrastinator. My go-to strategy was waiting until the last possible minute, relying on the pressure of deadlines to get things done. It was stressful, exhausting, and far from productive. Then I discovered EFT Tapping for procrastination, and everything changed.
Using EFT, I didn’t just start completing tasks—I began to feel calmer, more focused, and more confident in my ability to handle whatever was in front of me. It was like breaking free from a cycle I thought I’d never escape. If procrastination is holding you back, EFT can help you too. Let’s dive in and explore how it works.
From Fear to Focus: My Journey with EFT Tapping
EFT Tapping, or Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a simple yet powerful tool for reducing stress and clearing emotional blocks. It involves tapping on specific acupressure points while focusing on your thoughts or feelings. This combination helps calm the nervous system and reframe negative patterns. Check out my beginners guide to EFT for more info.
I first discovered EFT when I was struggling with a fear of horseback riding. For no particular reason I started to dread getting in the saddle. I was terrified to the point where I physically shook. Horseback riding had always been my passion and my peace and here I was hating it.Desperate to get my mojo back, I started tapping. To my surprise, it didn’t just help with my fear—it left me feeling lighter and more confident overall.
I wondered that if EFT could help with my fear of horseback riding, what else could it do? I started using it for other challenges, like boosting my self-confidence and managing my anxiety. Each time, I felt lighter, calmer, and more in control. It was like tapping opened a door to solutions I hadn’t realized were possible.
Then one day, as I sat staring at yet another to-do list I had zero motivation to tackle, I had an idea—could EFT help with procrastination too? As someone who left everything to the last minute, thrived only under the pressure of a deadline, and constantly felt behind, I had nothing to lose by trying.
What happened next was a game-changer. After tapping, I felt calmer, clearer, and, for the first time, genuinely motivated to start tasks without the ticking time bomb of a deadline. EFT didn’t just help me get things done—it helped me enjoy the process.
EFT quickly became my go-to for breaking through procrastination, and I’m excited to share how you can use it too.
Why We Procrastinate (An EFT Perspective)
Procrastination is more than just putting things off. It’s often rooted in emotional triggers like fear, overwhelm, perfectionism, or self-doubt. These feelings can paralyze us, making even small tasks seem impossible.
Fear of failure can make you hesitate, especially when the stakes feel high. Overwhelm kicks in when a project seems too big or unclear. Perfectionism tells you not to bother unless it’s flawless. And self-doubt whispers, “You’re not good enough.”
EFT Tapping works by addressing these emotional blocks. When you tap on specific acupressure points while focusing on your feelings, you calm your nervous system. This helps reframe negative thoughts and reduces the emotional intensity behind procrastination.
If procrastination feels like a constant battle, understanding its emotional roots can be a game-changer. You can learn more about procrastination including other effective strategies and techniques that work in my blog post.
How to Use EFT Tapping for Procrastination
EFT Tapping is simple, quick, and surprisingly effective for overcoming procrastination. It works by calming the emotions that keep you stuck—whether it’s fear, overwhelm, or self-doubt—and clearing the path to action.
You can check out my beginners guide on EFT Tapping for more information on how to tap.
Here’s how you can start using EFT to tackle procrastination today:
Step 1: Think of a Time When You Procrastinated
Take a moment to recall a specific time when you procrastinated. What task were you avoiding? Why do you think you put it off? Was it fear, overwhelm, perfectionism, or simply not wanting to do it? Acknowledge your experience and the emotions that came with it.
Step 2: Tune Into Your Feelings
Note if you feel these emotions physically in your body. Do you feel a knot in your gut? Does your heart race? Are your palms sweaty?
On a scale of 0 to 10, rate the intensity of these emotions, with 10 being the most intense. This helps in tracking your progress.
Step 3: Start Tapping on the Feeling
Setup Statement (Karate Chop Point)
Using the EFT Tapping Script provided, begin by tapping on the Karate Chop point while saying the setup statements:
- “Even though I procrastinate and it holds me back, I accept myself and I’m ready to change.”
- “Even though I procrastinate on so many tasks and I hate myself for doing it, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
- “Even though procrastination has held me back, I choose to believe I can change and do things differently.”
Then, move through the main tapping points.
FIRST ROUND: Acknowledging the procrastination
- Eyebrow (EB) “All this procrastination.”
- Side of the Eye (SE) “I procrastinate on so many things.”
- Under the Eye (UE) “I’m always leaving things to the last minute.”
- Under the Nose (UN) “I’m always late to events, no matter how hard I try.”
- Chin (CH) “I just can’t seem to plan things properly.”
- Collarbone (CB) “Sometimes I procrastinate out of fear of doing the thing.”
- Under the Arm (UA) “Sometimes I procrastinate because I’m anxious about going to an event.”
- Top of the Head (TH) “And sometimes I just don’t want to do it.”
Second Round: Exploring the Emotions
- Eyebrow (EB) “Why do I keep delaying these tasks?”
- Side of the Eye (SE) “It only makes me feel worse.”
- Under the Eye (UE) “I tell myself that I work better under pressure, but that’s not true” “Wouldn’t it be great if I could overcome procrastination?”
- Under the Nose (UN) “I feel ashamed when I am late for events and can’t plan better.”
- Chin (CH) “Why can’t I manage like everyone else?”
- Collarbone (CB) “I’d feel so much better if I could just do things on time.”
- Under the Arm (UA) “I’d feel proud of myself if I could plan my tasks better.”
- Top of the Head (TH) “So maybe it’s time to stop procrastinating.”
Step 4: Reassess the Intensity
After completing the tapping sequence, take a deep breath and reassess the intensity of your emotions on the 0-10 scale.
If the intensity remains high, repeat the tapping sequence until you notice a significant decrease.
Step 5: Reframe Your Thoughts
After a few rounds of tapping, check in with yourself. Has the intensity of your feelings decreased? If so, replace negative statements with empowering ones.
ROUND 3
- Eyebrow (EB) “I choose to take steps to overcome procrastination.”
- Side of the Eye (SE) “I choose to be better organized.”
- Under the Eye (UE) “I choose to face my fears about getting things done.”
- Under the Nose (UN) “I choose to eat that frog and tackle the hardest tasks first.”
- Chin (CH) “I always feel better after completing a task, so I choose to feel better sooner.”
- Collarbone (CB) “I choose to stop delaying and start doing.”
- Under the Arm (UA) “I choose to plan my tasks and follow through.”
- Top of the Head (TH) “I want to break free from procrastination”
ROUND 4
- Eyebrow (EB): “I can take one small step forward right now.”
- Side of the Eye (SE): “I have the power to choose action over avoidance.”
- Under the Eye (UE): “Every small step I take builds momentum and confidence.”
- Under the Nose (UN): “I release the need for perfection and embrace progress.”
- Chin (CH): “I am capable, focused, and ready to begin.”
- Collarbone (CB): “I trust myself to handle tasks one step at a time.”
- Under the Arm (UA): “I choose to focus on what I can do today.”
- Top of the Head (TH): “I am in charge of my time, my focus, and my actions. Procrastination no longer controls me.”
Repeat these affirmations while tapping to reinforce your motivation.
Step 6: Take Action
Now that you’ve cleared the emotional blocks, choose one small step and do it. Whether it’s writing the first sentence of your report or tidying one shelf in the garage, taking action—even a tiny one—builds momentum.
By following these steps, you’ll not only address the emotional triggers behind your procrastination but also feel more empowered to take action. EFT Tapping is a process—be kind to yourself and trust that each round brings you closer to breaking the procrastination habit.
The Benefits of EFT for Procrastination
EFT Tapping isn’t just about calming your emotions in the moment—it’s a tool that creates lasting change. When you use EFT to address procrastination, the benefits go beyond ticking items off your to-do list. Here’s how it helps:
1. Immediate Relief
Procrastination can leave you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and stuck. EFT provides relief in minutes by calming your nervous system and reducing the emotional charge tied to your tasks. As you tap, those feelings of dread or self-doubt start to fade, leaving you with a sense of calm and focus.
2. Clarity and Motivation
When procrastination takes over, your mind can feel cluttered with excuses, fears, or “what-ifs.” EFT helps clear that emotional noise, giving you the clarity to focus on what really matters. By releasing the mental and emotional blocks, you’ll find it easier to get motivated and take action—one step at a time.
3. Long-Term Impact
Procrastination isn’t just a habit; it’s often rooted in deeper emotions like fear, perfectionism, or self-doubt. EFT addresses those underlying triggers, helping you rewire your thought patterns. Over time, this can break the procrastination cycle for good, leaving you more organized, confident, and in control of your time.
EFT is a tool you can use anytime procrastination strikes, whether you’re stuck on a big project or avoiding a small task. The more you use it, the more you’ll notice its positive effects—helping you not only get things done but also feel better while doing them.
How EFT Helped Me Start My Blog Despite Procrastination
The thought of starting this blog was absolutely terrifying. I had no idea what I was doing, and my inner perfectionist kept yelling, “This isn’t good enough!” Every time I looked at my website, I found flaws. I spiraled into a cycle of comparing my blog to others, convincing myself mine didn’t measure up.
Procrastination didn’t just slow me down—it affected everything. I felt constantly stressed, guilty, and stuck in a loop of avoiding tasks that I knew were important. The fear of failure weighed heavily on me, and I started missing opportunities to grow and connect because I was too scared to put myself out there.
That’s when I turned to EFT Tapping. I tapped through the fear, the perfectionism, and the belief that I wasn’t good enough. With each round of tapping, the emotional intensity softened. I began to feel calmer, clearer, and—most importantly—ready to take action.
I decided to write and publish my first post, even though it wasn’t perfect. That decision changed everything. This blog is still a work in progress, but I’m so glad I started. I’ve met amazing people, learned so much, and pushed myself out of my comfort zone.
EFT didn’t just help me overcome procrastination—it helped me embrace imperfection and take action. Without it, this blog might still be just an idea in the back of my mind.

FAQs About EFT and Procrastination
EFT Tapping is a powerful tool for overcoming procrastination, but if you’re new to it, you might have a few questions. Here are some common questions about using EFT for procrastination and how to make the most of it:
Can EFT really help with procrastination?
Absolutely. Procrastination often stems from emotional blocks like fear, overwhelm, or self-doubt. EFT works by calming your nervous system and reducing the intensity of those emotions. Once the emotional charge is reduced, it’s much easier to focus and take action.
What if I don’t know why I’m procrastinating?
That’s okay. Start by tapping on the general feeling of procrastination. For example:
“Even though I’m procrastinating and I don’t know why, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Often, as you tap, deeper emotions or insights will surface, helping you understand what’s really holding you back.
How long does it take to see results?
EFT can work quickly, often within minutes, to reduce emotional intensity. However, breaking the procrastination habit may take consistent tapping over time. Think of EFT as both an immediate fix for emotional overwhelm and a long-term tool for building better habits.
What if I feel silly tapping?
It’s normal to feel a bit awkward at first. But remember, EFT is a scientifically supported technique with real results. Focus on the outcome—feeling calmer, more focused, and ready to act—and the awkwardness will fade as you see progress.
Do I need a practitioner to use EFT for procrastination?
Not necessarily. EFT is easy to learn and use on your own. However, if you’re dealing with deep-seated emotional blocks or find it challenging to stick with tapping, working with a certified EFT practitioner can provide extra support and guidance.
Can EFT help with procrastination caused by anxiety?
Yes! EFT is especially effective for procrastination linked to anxiety. By tapping on specific points while addressing anxious thoughts, you can calm your nervous system and reduce the emotional charge that makes tasks feel overwhelming.
How often should I use EFT for procrastination?
There’s no set rule. Use EFT whenever you feel stuck or notice yourself avoiding tasks. Regular practice can help you tackle procrastination more consistently and build confidence over time.
Can EFT help me stay motivated long-term?
Definitely. EFT not only helps with immediate emotional blocks but also shifts your mindset over time. By regularly tapping on fears and replacing them with empowering beliefs, you can create lasting changes in how you approach tasks and goals.
